Child Psychology and Play Therapy that supports little minds, and their families, thrive.

At Playful Therapy 4 Little Minds, we provide evidence-based therapy to support children aged 2 - 12 years and their families. We recognise that childhood can bring moments of challenge, uncertainty, and big emotions, and we believe families shouldn’t have to navigate these experiences on their own.

Through the power of play, children can express themselves, process experiences, and develop new coping skills in ways that feel natural and safe. Our approach is child-centred, trauma-informed, and grounded in deep respect for each child’s unique story.

We work closely with parents and caregivers, offering guidance, insight, and practical tools to strengthen family connections. At Playful Therapy 4 Little Minds, we create a space where children feel understood, families feel supported, and healing can unfold.

About me

My name is Beth Mitchell and I am an AHPRA registered Psychologist, QLD registered Teacher, and Masters qualified Play Therapist. I believe deeply in the magic of childhood and the transformative power of play. My work focuses on child therapy, with a strong emphasis on how play supports emotional, social, and psychological growth.

With more than 16 years of experience as a School Psychologist and Guidance Officer, I have provided both educational and clinical support to children and adolescents across a wide range of needs. I draw on evidence‑based, developmentally appropriate therapeutic approaches that honour each child’s unique strengths, challenges, and stage of development.

Throughout my career, I have delivered professional development to educational organisations on topics such as trauma‑informed practice, neurodiversity, anxiety, emotional and self‑regulation, and self‑care. These experiences have strengthened my belief that when adults understand a child’s emotional world, the environment becomes safer, calmer, and more supportive.

I am committed to working collaboratively with children, adolescents, families, and educators to ensure young people feel heard, understood, and genuinely supported in their wellbeing. My goal is to provide effective, compassionate therapy for little minds—helping each child grow with confidence, connection, and emotional resilience.

My journey to play therapy

During my years working as a Psychologist, I noticed something consistent and powerful — children opened up most naturally during play. Their stories came alive through toys, their emotions made sense in pretend scenarios, and their worries felt more manageable when expressed through creativity, movement, or imagination. This insight led me to pursue further specialised training, completing a Master of Child Play Therapy at Deakin University. Play therapy gives children a language that fits them perfectly, one that doesn’t rely on adult words, but embraces the way they truly communicate.

In the playroom, a child might roar like a dragon to show frustration, hide a tiny figure under a blanket to express fear, build a tower to practise bravery, or develop perseverance through a simple game. Play becomes their voice, and therapy becomes a journey they can explore at their own pace.

Being a Masters qualified Play Therapist and registered Psychologist allows me to support children in ways that are evidenced based, developmentally appropriate, attuned, and deeply respectful of their inner world. My goal is to meet each child exactly where they are, to help them feel safe, understood, and capable of growing in their own time.
